Devoted to the Breaking of Bread
In this message from our sermon series The Devoted Life, we explore what it means to be truly devoted to the Lord’s Table—not as a monthly ritual, but as a continual act of obedience, reflection, and proclamation. Drawing from Acts 2:42 and 1 Corinthians 11, Pastor Steven Pettis shows us that Communion is not a tradition to be treated casually, but a powerful testimony of our devotion to Christ.
We are reminded that:
Communion is a devotion, not a detail—an act of worship that reflects our obedience to Jesus’ command: “Do this in remembrance of Me.”
Communion is a proclamation of the Gospel—a public declaration of Christ’s incarnation, sacrificial death, victorious resurrection, and promised return.
Communion reminds us of our reconciliation—that we were once enemies, but now, through the blood of Jesus, we have peace with God and stand equal at the foot of the cross.
This message invites us to approach the table not out of routine, but with reverence. It calls both believer and seeker to reflect on the grace of Jesus Christ and respond in faith, humility, and worship.
