40 Day Daniel Fast Day 1

"But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
Matthew 6:33
OK, I have an example and wouldn't dare think about starting day one with us thinking carnal and derailing the fast. However, for the sake of clarity (lol), allow me this one pass. A famous R&B singer HER has a song entitled FOCUS; according to the description of this song, it has many undertones of desperation and attention-seeking. She wants to gain attention from her partner, not just a normal conversation, but attention and affection that can only be given through intimacy acquired through knowledge. She wants to walk away from the relationship but has a deep love for her partner and therefore doesn't. However, in staying, she births this song of desperation full of pleas to focus on her. What was his issue? He was focused on everything else but her.

When we read Matthew 6:33, we don't see a relational plea like HER; we see a Kingdom plea, actually a better thought a Kingdom priority!
Jesus is saying to his followers, what's your attitude towards Me? You see, Jesus is teaching us that we are all suffering from this one thing, a lack of focus! We are focused on our jobs, relationships, marriage, kids, parents, significant others, etc., but we are not focused on who we should be focused on, HIM! You see, when you get your priorities right, Jesus promises that God will give you all you need from day to day, if you live for Him. When we follow Christ and seek Him as the priority first, God takes care of all our needs.

Today, I want you to make a bold move! I want you to seek Him first; during this 40 day fast, I want you to make sure that God is your priority and that you are giving it all to Him, and that you won't be concerned with what you are going to do next, but only what He wants from you today. Don't worry about whether you have time to pray, or if you will keep the fast, don't concern yourself with the thought, "I wonder if I will get anything out of it", God wants you to focus on HIM! God is jealous for you; He doesn't want to share you with anyone! So will you focus?
Pray
Our Father in Heaven, help us to focus our attention on You and help us to cast out all idols that take our focus off of You as the Sovereign Lord of our lives. We worship You in the beauty of holiness. Renew our individual and corporate worship for Your glory. Amen.
