40 Day Daniel Fast Day 2

How much do you Love Him?

Mark 12: 29-30 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."’
Ok, I pray this is the last time I bring up a song in these devotionals, but Marvin Gaye recorded a song entitled “I want you” Now, before you go down memory lane, let’s discuss the nature of this song. He wrote it from his real-life relationship, he had a strong desire for this particular woman, and his desire wasn’t being met; it is stated that he names this woman in the song and other songs. However, Marvin sings a line repeatedly in this song, “I want you, but I want you the right way, and I want you to want me too.” You see, like Marvin, who wants this woman to share in his affection, I believe Jesus is asking us to reevaluate our relationship with Him. Jesus wants us to make the Kingdom and Him the priority.

If you read our passage, what you will find is Jesus dealing with teachers who have the truth but had not yet expressed their trust in truth. You see, there’s a difference between knowing the Lord and understanding He wants us to Love Him and to show it. You see, the Jews were not strangers to the saying, "Love the Lord your God." It is directly quoted in Deuteronomy 6:4; as a matter of fact, if you read verses 4-9, you then better understand their creed of Judaism. It was recited twice daily. You see, the words being recited were not the issue; they were committed to reciting; where they failed at is in turning their verbal reciting into a commitment to live it.

Jesus challenged the teachers with the proper interpretation of this scripture; it’s not a “we know we should love the Lord”; It’s you should live out what it means to love the Lord! And do it with every part of your being. With all of your heart, with all of your soul, with all of your mind, with all of your strength. You see, you can’t just say you love Him and keep giving God part-time commitment and his church. Love must be shown; love must be expressed; love must be lived out! If Brother Marvin was closing this devotional out, he would say, “I want you to want me too,” “Jesus wants you to want him too” He wants you to need Him. “
Challenge of application:
Can I challenge you today? What’s standing in the way of you fully committing to the Lord? What’s challenging you to love with all of your heart fully? Mind? Soul? Strength? Let’s make a step today and do it!
